On on February 11-13, 2026, a number of QSI network schools will take part in an online QSI Spelling Bee, with word lists and rules adapted from the Scripps National Spelling Bee (USA). Each of the participating QSI schools will have in-person class-level bees, with winners advancing to the school-level spelling bee.

Two winners from each age bracket in the school-level bees will represent their school at the QSI Spelling Bee on February 11-13, 2026. The QSI Spelling Bee will be hosted virtually online by QSI Sarajevo, viewable by all parents and schools. The exact timing of the February bees will be released on this page closer to the date.

Preparing for a spelling bee offers numerous benefits, such as improved vocabulary and spelling, critical thinking skills through deduction, and a deeper understanding of how our language works. Additionally, it fosters cultural awareness, personal growth, and confidence building, while honing valuable life skills like effective study techniques, time management, and good sportsmanship.

Word-lists are available as printouts from homeroom teachers or digitally at this website (see link above). All word-lists are based off of the free Word Club app from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students are strongly encouraged to study using the app - as it offers multiple ways of studying, as well as pronunciations, definitions, language of origin and more. Students or parents can create personal accounts on the Word Club to 'bookmark' focus words to practice. School iPads will also have the app available for use in-class. 

Students who want to participate should practice at home to prepare for their class bee. Teachers at school will also help encourage students to practice for the bee. Students will have some time to prepare in class but it will be limited.
