QSI Sarajevo is organizing a two-level spelling bee, with word lists and rules adapted from the Scripps National Spelling Bee (USA).

Preparing for a spelling bee offers numerous benefits, such as improved vocabulary and spelling, critical thinking skills through deduction, and a deeper understanding of how our language works. Additionally, it fosters cultural awareness, personal growth, and confidence building, while honing valuable life skills like effective study techniques, time management, and good sportsmanship.

Key points:

  • Class level Spelling Bee: The 6YO- 13YO - Classes held class-level spelling bees on March 12, 2024 (Tuesday). Each class has 3 winners that will advance to the school-level spelling bee.
  • The school-level bee will be held on April 4, 2024 (Thursday) in the following age-groupings and times.
    • 8AM - 9-11YO
    • 9:45AM - 6-8YOs

    • 12:10PM - 12-13YOs

    • 1:48PM - S1-S2

Word-lists are available as printouts from homeroom teachers or digitally, at the link on this webpage. Students should work on word-lists in the recommended sequence, as the competition will progress in this order.

Students who want to participate should practice at home to prepare for their class bee. Teachers at school will also help encourage students to practice for the bee. Students will have some time to prepare in class but it will be limited.

Students are encouraged to study using the free Word Club app from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students or parents can create personal accounts on Word Club to help keep track of focus words to practice. School iPads will also have the app available for use in-class. The spelling support presentations linked on this page (9-11YO and 12+YO) highlight some possibly tricky non-conventional words to consider.

The rules for the school-level spelling bee are linked on this webpage.

Feel free to get in touch with your student's homeroom teacher or the administration if you have any questions about the spelling bee. Good luck!
