Academics

At QSI Sarajevo, academics are built on the Mastery Learning model used across the QSI network. Every course is organized around clearly defined learning outcomes, and students move forward once they can demonstrate real command of that material, not once a set number of weeks has passed. A student moving slower through a unit isn't behind; they are working toward the same standard of mastery as everyone else, just on their own timeline.

Course content is one part of what happens in a QSI classroom. Teachers also build in the skills that carry across subjects and into life after school: written and spoken communication, problem solving, decision making, collaboration, and the digital literacy students need for almost any field they go into. Because QSI Sarajevo draws families from Bosnia and Herzegovina alongside the international and diplomatic community based here, cultural awareness is built into daily classroom life rather than taught as a separate unit.

Character is treated as part of the curriculum, not an add-on to it. Students are expected to take responsibility for their work, their conduct toward classmates, and how they respond when something doesn't go their way. This is reflected in our Success Orientations (SO).
